Best Turkish Restaurants St Albans: Megan’s at the old Bell.

Megan’s is one of (I think) two Turkish restaurants in St Albans.

Yes, our name might sound like we are an old pub at the top of your road, but we are in fact a Turkish restaurant! We decided to keep ‘old Bell’ in our name to keep some of the history of our cute spot in St Albans! Our home in our blue building on Chequer Street used to be an old pub called ‘The Bell’. Cute right!

So, on to the food…

Our (loosely Turkish) menu.

Best Turkish restaurants St. Albans: Megan’s new restaurant on Chequer Street, St. Albans.

Our Executive Head Chef, Sercan, is originally from Turkey & he creates all of our delicious recipes at Megan’s! The reason we use the term ‘loosely’, is because a lot of our dishes have twists on classic Turkish recipes.

For example, our ‘posh’ kebabs are not like your pitta kebabs from your local kebab shop! We use a hand rolled doughy flatbread as a base & top the flatbread with harissa hummus, smoked aubergine, pickled vegetables, pomegranate seeds, pomegranate molasses & your choice of protein; Grilled halloumi, chicken thigh, overnight braised lamb shoulder, vegan chorizo or plant based ‘chkn’.

We also have shakshouka baked eggs on the brunch menu & shakshouka kebabs on our evening menu. Served with organic 7 seeded sourdough bread or doughy flatbread.

Mixed in amongst these Turkish delights are brunch classics like avocado on toast, eggs royale, a full english (with shakshouka sauce instead of baked beans – this dish is called The Megan’s Grill on the menu) & veggie brunch.

We also have a delicious selection of home made cakes & our half baked nutella cookie dough. The cookie dough really is as unreal as it sounds. Take a look at this mouthwatering video to see for yourself…

Our restaurant interiors.

Our restaurant is a stunning setting for any occasion. We are have lots of pretty blue tiles, hanging lamps & also tons of fairy lights. Think a Mediterranean holiday…
